Tag archives for update

Well.

It’s been so long since I’ve written here, that I don’t remember what my blog was even about. *head scratch*

I’ve had this blog for so long that it’s a mash-up of so many different versions of me. So many emotions, thoughts, and random ideas, so it probably doesn’t matter much.

I guess an update is in order?

  • NK is 4. RS is 13. SA is 15. SM is 17. Wow.
  • Their grade levels for the upcoming year are kindergarten (although she is currently working her way through this and should be done by November), 8th, 10th and 12th.
  • Colleges are on the radar. One in particular.
  • Thinking of ways to celebrate graduation. :)
  • I won’t be keeping much homeschool information here since I also have a homeschool site.
  • In the process of publishing first children’s book.
  • In the process of creating toys to go with the book.
  • Spending more time writing.
  • Still working for a homeschool company part-time.

I think that’s about it. Haven’t figured out what we’ll be doing for next year’s curricula, but I can share what we’re doing for kindergarten. Now, we only spend about an hour or two working on kindergarten lessons. The rest of the time is really following interests and hands-on play. If she ever gets tired of a lesson, we move on to something else. She turned 4 in March and picks things up very easily and quickly. We didn’t push for early kindergarten at all. She just loves learning and was bored with the pre-school work. We “school” 4 days per week.

*Get Ready for the Code, Get Set for the Code, & Go For the Code: She started this series (a, b & c) in preschool. They are a little easy for her, but she wants to finish them. We will go on to Explode the Code as soon as she finishes up.

**Bob Books: We started these, but them on the back-burner for a bit. They are great readers and work well, but for some reason, a few of the characters make her upset. I wanted to pick it up and try again later, but we may not get a chance.

***Keeping a journal: This is very casual. She likes to write words that she knows. Sometimes I will have her draw freely or make up a story with pictures. She can write, draw, scribble, paste pictures, etc. You could use this or just a regular journal/notebook.

****A Beka Social Studies K5: We skip anything dealing with church or school. Mainly use it as a spine. For instance, we used the pages on police and safety to go further into what policemen do. We also used it to talk about calling emergency numbers. How to use the phone. Learning address and phone number.

Hitting You With a Quickie.

The last couple days have been really busy. So I’m just posting another short update.

NK is much better. All symptoms are gone! And she’s back to terrorizing and running the house.

I am way behind on lesson planning and grading and household chores and pretty much everything I have to do.

Back to school tomorrow, so I have to grade all papers and get the week planned out before bed tonight. On top of that, there’s laundry, and every room in the house needs a smackdown.

I’m taking programming and writing courses, and those are also taking a hit.

So much to do. So little time.

I always say I need an assistant. I do. Or SOME help. It would be much easier to fold clothes if NK wasn’t also unfolding them. It would be easier to grade if she wasn’t screaming the entire time. Can a stay at home mom get a nanny? Sounds silly.

So, my todo list for today reads:

  • Clean entire house
  • Grade mound of papers
  • Lesson plan and print lessons for the week
  • Blog a few things we are working on this week
  • Catch up on programming classes
  • Catch up on writing classes/readings
  • Writing
That seems like a lot. I probably won’t get all of that done. Nope. I won’t.
The good news is that I’ve got 3,000 words of my book done. I have a goal of 80,000 words for my first draft. Long way to go, but I am feeling like I’m on a roll. No blocks right now. Ideas are flowing. Wish I had time to write today, but I’ll probably have to stay up extra late if I want to do that. Not just late…extra late. LOL

Shots Are Evil.

I have a headache today and the baby is still sick.

Needless to say, this will be another quickie.

ImageNK’s fever comes and goes, and she’s battling a bout of loose bowels. This is totally uncommon for her. I’m almost positive this is from last week’s immunizations. I have a rant on that. But no energy to post it today. I’m peeved and sad for her at the same time. Some of the immunizations she got, I don’t think are necessary right now. If the risk factors are unprotected sex and drug use, why does my year old baby need it? *sigh*

It’s been one of those days.

On top of her being sick, I still have a ton of papers to grade before Tuesday. (Our school week runs Tues-Fri). Actually need to finish before then to plan next weeks assignments. Yes, I plan week to week. I really wish I had time to plan further out. (By plan, I mean get everything typed up in the planner so my daughters can login and view it from their computers and Kindles. I already know what we need to do.) Maybe in the future I’ll be able to pull off a month at a time.

Some good news is that SM (14) pulled a 100% on her math quiz. It was really just review, but hey, we like it! LOL

Calgon Please.

I’m going to make this quick. Today has been a LONG day. Or so it seems. Maybe I just get up too early? Anyway, NK ended up with a fever of 101 last night. I bathed her and got it down. She seemed okay this morning, but then fever crept back in. She’s been super clingy and whiney. Just not feeling herself. I didn’t get much accomplished from my todo list. Some re-arranging of the dining area, and some papers got graded, but that’s about all.

The grocery store needs to “see me” so not many options for dinner. I’m making oven fried chicken. That lovely picture to the right is from Your Life Uncommon. Which is where I also got the recipe. PINTEREST FIND!

After dinner, it’s bath time for the boy and then attempting to put the baby to bed. Yeah. We’ll see how that goes. Then more paper grading and cleaning.

I also have some bracelets to complete. Which I can’t complain about because that means I’m getting some business. LOL

Hopefully, by 11PM it will be just me and Netflix.

Seriously?

It seems like the only posts I make are those that are whining/complaining/crying/excuse-making about not updating. Add this one to the list.

I haven’t even posted much about the baby. Who is now a year old. How can this be? I guess life got in the way? Or I forgot? Or maybe something else?

I don’t know.

Quick update. All my children are beautiful and healthy. SM is 14. SA is 12. RS is about to be 10. And NK is 1!

My life is the same, but different. New people added to the mix, but still the same ol’ same ol’ of parenting and homeschooling.

I guess you’ll see more updates. Just don’t expect long posts. I’m short on words.

Is there a WordPress app? I need an easy way to upload pictures. Yeah. I got a MacBook, and still haven’t totally figured out how to use it. Using iPhoto seems cumbersome, and I know there has to be a better way. I probably should just load my phone pics on the Mac (who I call Luna — yes I name my devices. Lita and Lola are the others) the same way I did my PC. Via the USB cord. I wanted to be fancy with my Mac I suppose. Probably.

At any rate, this is my update. Promise there will be more. I’m using this to document some homeschool stuff. I think. Yeah. I will. As well as my journey/voyage/drama into the field of programming. Or trying to. Uh, and did I mention I’m half way through a book? No? Well, you’re the first one to find out. I’ve told no one. The book is actually a short novel. Novella? And uh…It’s not written like I write here. *thinks* Nope. But in case, I’ll be sure to find an editor.

K. That’s all I have for now.
