Chores Suck.

There are a lot of people in my house. The more people, the more mess. Sometimes I have CHAOS. You know, “can’t have anyone over syndrome.” I don’t get that much company, but when people are going to stop by, I don’t want to have to spend more than 10 minutes straightening things. I know, I know…there are 4 kids in the house all day long. Things are bound to be a little messy. My 2 middle kids are the king and queen of MESS. I don’t know how it happens, but they always leave a pile of something behind. My son is often banned from the kitchen because of the mess he leaves. Little Pig Pens.

Anyway, I developed a schedule for cleaning. So far, it works out well (as long as I do it). The only thing that seems to stay totally out of control is LAUNDRY. But there’s plenty of room in the backyard for that. I’m rambling.

Here’s my schedule:

Daily

  • Make bed
  • Load dishwasher
  • Clear/wipe kitchen sink, stove, & counters
  • Sweep kitchen floor and entryway
  • Straighten entryway
  • Wipe out bathroom sinks
  • 1 load of laundry
  • 20 minute tidy of house & bedroom before bed

Sundays

  • Bathroom (includes sweeping, mopping, toilets, shower walls, mirrors)

Mondays

  • Living room (includes sweeping, mopping, dusting, window sills)

Tuesdays

  • Kitchen (includes sweeping, mopping, wiping down cabinets & appliances)

Wednesdays

  • Bathroom (quick tidy)

Thursdays

  • Living room (quick tidy)

Fridays

  • Kitchen (the girls do it this day)
  • Wipe down walls and doors
  • Mop entryway/hall

Saturday

  • Bedroom

Monthly

  • Help the kids in their rooms
  • Wash shower curtains
  • Clean out kitchen cabinets
  • Fridge (this needs to happen more, but I can never find the time — sue me)
  • Bathroom cabinets

Bi-Annually

  • Clean carpets
  • Wash curtains (maybe blinds, eh)
  • Wash windows
  • Closets
  • Oven

Kids

  • Clean rooms (including 10 minute tidy before bed)
  • Cleaning the other bathroom (once per week)
  • Caring for pets
  • Emptying dishwasher daily
  • Keeping their things put away
  • Helping clean after the baby

Do you have a chore schedule? How do you keep your house in order? Do you have CHAOS? Believe me, it’s okay if you do. Our homes are lived in, it’s hard not to have some mess!

Hitting You With a Quickie.

The last couple days have been really busy. So I’m just posting another short update.

NK is much better. All symptoms are gone! And she’s back to terrorizing and running the house.

I am way behind on lesson planning and grading and household chores and pretty much everything I have to do.

Back to school tomorrow, so I have to grade all papers and get the week planned out before bed tonight. On top of that, there’s laundry, and every room in the house needs a smackdown.

I’m taking programming and writing courses, and those are also taking a hit.

So much to do. So little time.

I always say I need an assistant. I do. Or SOME help. It would be much easier to fold clothes if NK wasn’t also unfolding them. It would be easier to grade if she wasn’t screaming the entire time. Can a stay at home mom get a nanny? Sounds silly.

So, my todo list for today reads:

  • Clean entire house
  • Grade mound of papers
  • Lesson plan and print lessons for the week
  • Blog a few things we are working on this week
  • Catch up on programming classes
  • Catch up on writing classes/readings
  • Writing
That seems like a lot. I probably won’t get all of that done. Nope. I won’t.
The good news is that I’ve got 3,000 words of my book done. I have a goal of 80,000 words for my first draft. Long way to go, but I am feeling like I’m on a roll. No blocks right now. Ideas are flowing. Wish I had time to write today, but I’ll probably have to stay up extra late if I want to do that. Not just late…extra late. LOL
