I’ve Got an Excuse.

WARNING: THIS POST WILL BE EXTREMELY RANDOM. And I likely won’t proofread because I’m in a rush.

I haven’t posted in a while, and there’s really a good excuse this time. I’m trying to get this year’s lesson plans done (well, at least the first month). Summer learning is coming to an end, and while I didn’t do a great job of keeping what we did updated around here, we definitely learned some great things. I do have a lot of drafts written up, mostly not related to homeschooling, and one day I’ll get to them for publishing.

Anyway, here we are in August (almost mid August) and I’m knee deep in lesson planning. I’ve also been working from home (2+ jobs). That keeps me pretty busy. I’ve felt like there was no time for fun (for me), but you wouldn’t say that if you saw what went down in this house yesterday evening. Let’s just say, it involved mom (me) riding a toddler toy, wearing rain boots, drinking a Capri Sun, popping wheelies, and doing donuts. Oh, and lots of screaming. Hmmm. My daughter said there should have been video evidence, and I’m kind of glad there isn’t.

About those jobs? I love them. I just wish I could get more hours with them. I especially love anything related to homeschooling and community, and one of them is.

I haven’t been on any social networks this week, which is hard, but not the end of the world. Actually, when I say social networks, I just mean Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. I’m just now realizing how much time I wasted on them. My spouse and I were taking a break from them to see if we’d spend more time talking to each other. I’m finding I have more time to do things around the house (like donuts in the living room). I do think this is a very good thing, and when my month is over, I hope to use the networks much less. I hated mindlessly scrolling through reading updates. I do miss my news though! My weatherman posted there regularly and I’m finding myself searching for weather info on the boob tube. And it’s actually harder to get weather reports there. Go figure.

I’m not on Facebook to wish anyone a happy birthday, so if I miss you…I’m sorry. I should probably have you all in my contacts so that I could actually email, text or call anyway. Humph.

Yesterday I watched Ferris Bueller’s Day Off with the kids. Oh boy do they say “sh!t” a lot. The movie is definitely PG13, but I’d probably say more PG15 for my house. :) There was even one f-bomb. I’ve gotten more lenient with language. They know what’s appropriate or not. I’m still very hard when it comes to sex. They think it’s hilarious that I make comments like, ugh…how long are they going to kiss. Sheesh. Kissing is fine…total tongue downs make me cringe.

Remember the contest I did last month? Well the winner received her book. I wish she had posted here to say that, but she did email me:

Hi Robin,

I forgot to let you know that we recieved the book! Thanks again!!

You are very welcome Katie! I like contests! I’d like to do another, but I don’t have anything to giveaway right now. LOL. Soon. Soon.

I know this post was all over the place and hardly organized, but I did warn you. I’ll be back in the next few days because I have many more random things to talk about…

Quick Update.

It’s been a few days since I’ve posted, so I’m checking in.

I have a couple posts saved in draft, but those are homeschool related and need more work. LOL

Today is my son’s 10th birthday. 10. He’s still a baby. He got a new basketball hoop and ball for the backyard. He’s excited to play with it. I’m a little nervous about how that will go. He’s the kind of kid that likes to win at everything. Basketball is one of those things his sister does better than him (for now). Let’s pray for a pout-free day. Tomorrow he has his favorite video game coming in the mail. Something he’s been asking for since LAST birthday. I’m excited for him.

Outside of that I’ve been working on my message board. It’s the same board I’ve had since 2001, but we totally wiped it (really just archived everything far away) and made everyone resign up. This isn’t something I would ever do again, but it felt good to get rid of all the old stories following us around there. Hoping that some new people join in our convos. The link is It’s a community for people 18+ and center’s around “urban” life, so it may not be for everyone.

Hitting You With a Quickie.

The last couple days have been really busy. So I’m just posting another short update.

NK is much better. All symptoms are gone! And she’s back to terrorizing and running the house.

I am way behind on lesson planning and grading and household chores and pretty much everything I have to do.

Back to school tomorrow, so I have to grade all papers and get the week planned out before bed tonight. On top of that, there’s laundry, and every room in the house needs a smackdown.

I’m taking programming and writing courses, and those are also taking a hit.

So much to do. So little time.

I always say I need an assistant. I do. Or SOME help. It would be much easier to fold clothes if NK wasn’t also unfolding them. It would be easier to grade if she wasn’t screaming the entire time. Can a stay at home mom get a nanny? Sounds silly.

So, my todo list for today reads:

  • Clean entire house
  • Grade mound of papers
  • Lesson plan and print lessons for the week
  • Blog a few things we are working on this week
  • Catch up on programming classes
  • Catch up on writing classes/readings
  • Writing
That seems like a lot. I probably won’t get all of that done. Nope. I won’t.
The good news is that I’ve got 3,000 words of my book done. I have a goal of 80,000 words for my first draft. Long way to go, but I am feeling like I’m on a roll. No blocks right now. Ideas are flowing. Wish I had time to write today, but I’ll probably have to stay up extra late if I want to do that. Not just late…extra late. LOL

Calgon Please.

I’m going to make this quick. Today has been a LONG day. Or so it seems. Maybe I just get up too early? Anyway, NK ended up with a fever of 101 last night. I bathed her and got it down. She seemed okay this morning, but then fever crept back in. She’s been super clingy and whiney. Just not feeling herself. I didn’t get much accomplished from my todo list. Some re-arranging of the dining area, and some papers got graded, but that’s about all.

The grocery store needs to “see me” so not many options for dinner. I’m making oven fried chicken. That lovely picture to the right is from Your Life Uncommon. Which is where I also got the recipe. PINTEREST FIND!

After dinner, it’s bath time for the boy and then attempting to put the baby to bed. Yeah. We’ll see how that goes. Then more paper grading and cleaning.

I also have some bracelets to complete. Which I can’t complain about because that means I’m getting some business. LOL

Hopefully, by 11PM it will be just me and Netflix.

It seems like the only posts I make are those that are whining/complaining/crying/excuse-making about not updating. Add this one to the list.

I haven’t even posted much about the baby. Who is now a year old. How can this be? I guess life got in the way? Or I forgot? Or maybe something else?

I don’t know.

Quick update. All my children are beautiful and healthy. SM is 14. SA is 12. RS is about to be 10. And NK is 1!

My life is the same, but different. New people added to the mix, but still the same ol’ same ol’ of parenting and homeschooling.

I guess you’ll see more updates. Just don’t expect long posts. I’m short on words.

Is there a WordPress app? I need an easy way to upload pictures. Yeah. I got a MacBook, and still haven’t totally figured out how to use it. Using iPhoto seems cumbersome, and I know there has to be a better way. I probably should just load my phone pics on the Mac (who I call Luna — yes I name my devices. Lita and Lola are the others) the same way I did my PC. Via the USB cord. I wanted to be fancy with my Mac I suppose. Probably.

At any rate, this is my update. Promise there will be more. I’m using this to document some homeschool stuff. I think. Yeah. I will. As well as my journey/voyage/drama into the field of programming. Or trying to. Uh, and did I mention I’m half way through a book? No? Well, you’re the first one to find out. I’ve told no one. The book is actually a short novel. Novella? And uh…It’s not written like I write here. *thinks* Nope. But in case, I’ll be sure to find an editor.

K. That’s all I have for now.
