Archive for Kids

Well.

It’s been so long since I’ve written here, that I don’t remember what my blog was even about. *head scratch*

I’ve had this blog for so long that it’s a mash-up of so many different versions of me. So many emotions, thoughts, and random ideas, so it probably doesn’t matter much.

I guess an update is in order?

  • NK is 4. RS is 13. SA is 15. SM is 17. Wow.
  • Their grade levels for the upcoming year are kindergarten (although she is currently working her way through this and should be done by November), 8th, 10th and 12th.
  • Colleges are on the radar. One in particular.
  • Thinking of ways to celebrate graduation. :)
  • I won’t be keeping much homeschool information here since I also have a homeschool site.
  • In the process of publishing first children’s book.
  • In the process of creating toys to go with the book.
  • Spending more time writing.
  • Still working for a homeschool company part-time.

I think that’s about it. Haven’t figured out what we’ll be doing for next year’s curricula, but I can share what we’re doing for kindergarten. Now, we only spend about an hour or two working on kindergarten lessons. The rest of the time is really following interests and hands-on play. If she ever gets tired of a lesson, we move on to something else. She turned 4 in March and picks things up very easily and quickly. We didn’t push for early kindergarten at all. She just loves learning and was bored with the pre-school work. We “school” 4 days per week.

*Get Ready for the Code, Get Set for the Code, & Go For the Code: She started this series (a, b & c) in preschool. They are a little easy for her, but she wants to finish them. We will go on to Explode the Code as soon as she finishes up.

**Bob Books: We started these, but them on the back-burner for a bit. They are great readers and work well, but for some reason, a few of the characters make her upset. I wanted to pick it up and try again later, but we may not get a chance.

***Keeping a journal: This is very casual. She likes to write words that she knows. Sometimes I will have her draw freely or make up a story with pictures. She can write, draw, scribble, paste pictures, etc. You could use this or just a regular journal/notebook.

****A Beka Social Studies K5: We skip anything dealing with church or school. Mainly use it as a spine. For instance, we used the pages on police and safety to go further into what policemen do. We also used it to talk about calling emergency numbers. How to use the phone. Learning address and phone number.

Christmas Right Around the Corner.

So, I’ve been fooling around with my computer a bit. I absolutely love it. It’s been a lot of work to get all my stuff loaded into it, though. I might not even tranfer everything. SM has loved to use my old computer. Her computer has Windows 2000 and she couldn’t run a lot of her games on it. My old one has XP, so she can now play her games. Bad part (at least for her) is that little Shae has now learned how to use the mouse and wants to play. She used to be content just sitting and watching her big sister play the games. Now she wants to do the clicking and the moving. She’s 3.5, which is about the same age that SM started to obsess over the computer. I think Rah may be younger. He is already trying to play on it. *sigh* I’m raising a bunch of computer nuts.

Today was a pretty blah day. It was gray outside and we lazed (is that even a word?) around the house. I have to remember tomorrow that we need to call maintenance. The heater (we have steam heat) in our bedroom is leaking water. Hopefully, they’ll consider it an emergency and hurry to fix it.

Ray looked at me crossed-eyed the other day because I’ve put out a few Christmas decorations. Hey, if I had a tree, I’d have it up too. *lol* I just put out our Christmas pillows on the couch. They’re black with little puppies in Christmas stockings. I also put the throw on the couch. It features the same design as the pillows. Got them from Target a couple years back. I also put out this little Christmas watering can, a Christmas door hanger, and a little skiing snowman on the living room table. I didn’t go overboard, yet. But like I said, it’s only because I don’t have all the major stuff yet. We lost a lot of our decorations back when our basement flooded in the summer of 2002. I don’t want to even think of that because it depresses me. I’ll probably go out this week to get some of the decorations. Ray bought some of stuff for the kids that I need to wrap fast because they are snoops.

A New Member of the Family.

I am so happy right now! Ray bought me a brand new Sony Vaio for our anniversary! I absolutely love it. It’s a Pentium 4, 2.80 GHZ, 120 GB Hard Drive, 512 MB Ram, DVD Player, DVD-RW and tons of software with a flatscreen LCD monitor! w00t! I did keep my mouse from the old computer because it’s a new optical mouse and I hate the other kind now. I’m going to give SM my old computer and we may send back the one she has for school. It locks up on us all the time anyway. The only bad thing is I have 2 dead pixels in my monitor. I’ve been researching and it seems that dead pixels are fairly common in LCD monitors. They don’t really bother me, but you know how you want everything to be perfect when you get something new? And for the money he spent, it should be. Ray’s going to see if he can exchange it, but hopefully I won’t get something with more dead pixels. *sigh*

We didn’t do anything this evening. I spent the evening hooking up my gift! *hehe* Perhaps we’ll get out tomorrow.

Anyway, this is another promo for ODB, and I’m off to bed. My body aches because I cleaned the carpet yesterday and switch my bedroom with the kids. That was too much work for my out of shape butt! PEASH!

OK I Shopped Today…

I’m up late when I know I should be in the bed. I have my dentist appointment tomorrow and can’t even remember what time. I think it’s my subconscious trying to get me to miss it. hehe.

What did I do today? Hmmmm. I wished for a baby to be born and I’m sure there was one….just not in my household. :/ I went with my mom to get some new clothes. Yes, I said I would buy nothing else maternity, but I needed something for my baby shower on Sunday, so I broke down. I just got some khaki capri pants with a sleeveless black shirt. Heh, I’m almost hoping I don’t make it to the baby shower. That’s an awful thing to hope for since my cousin is putting so much work into it. :/ I also bought some thank you cards to send to the people that bought things off of my baby registry or who get us something at the baby shower. I was thinking of getting some baby annoucements, but didn’t. I started to worry…what if it isn’t really a boy??? What if they made a mistake. HA! We would not be prepared for that since everything we have bought since February has been for a boy. And we never came up with a back up girl name. Usually they don’t mistake girls for boys though. It’s mostly the other way around. They say it’s a girl and out comes a boy! lol. I’d be happy either way cause no matter what….I’M DONE!

I also want to say that I got up at 8:30am and had to use the bathroom. Someone please tell me why I could NOT get out of the bed. My body hurt so bad I just couldn’t. If felt like my shoulder had carried all my weight all night! Turning my head or moving my neck made me want to scream….so, um….I just went back to sleep until 10:00am. [ good thing the girls were really tired ]

I’m going to make some Orange Ruffie tomorrow for the first time. Wish me luck, because I am not a cook. However, mom says it is very simple to make. I think I’ll make some roasted potatoes with it…..mmmmmmm….I’m getting hungry. At my last doctor’s appointment I had gained 2lbs in a week. Wonder how much I’ve gained this time. I need to gain as much as possible, since I started out at 95lbs! That was due to my bad morning sickness in the first trimester. I am up to 113 now. With SM I was 125 when she was born. With Shae I was only 112….I had NO appetite that whole pregnancy, so I was not surprised that I didn’t gain much. All my kids have been healthy though. SM was the biggest at 7lbs 7oz. I was hoping this little guy could be bigger than that, but I really doubt it. Not unless I can put on tons of weight in the next couple of weeks. Ray wants to try some “natural inductions” to get this baby coming. I’m like, whatever. :/ lol

I worked on my pregnancy site today. Just a little. I think it looks horrid! If anyone wants to help out on it, let me know.

Off to bed I go! 😀

Pregnancy Note: My baby will now automatically turn toward a source of light. This is called the “orienting response” and permits the baby to practice being more aware of its environment.

Back For a Minute.

I have been gone long, no? Ah…Shan’s birthday was great. My parents spent too much money on her. Now see, the funny thing is, I don’t remember having a birthday as good as hers and I was an only child. :/ Anyway, she cleaned up. My mom actually let her go through the little toy section with her own cart. Once she saw she could put stuff in it and it wouldn’t get thrown back on the shelf, she went to town. lol. Dang, books, movies, barbie dolls, and some OOGLY doll that came with no face?? She have to draw the face on. *smh* We actually paid money for that? Now she and Shae have been fighting over the new toys. That will last about a week and then they will both be ignoring them. I plan on having a large yard sale come May. We have so many toys and junk to get rid of I might make enough to get a new house.

Anyway, she sported an “I’m 4″ button all day and constantly demanded cake. I think this is the first birthday she will actually remember. She sure had no clue what happened last year. It was a very tiring day. I look forward to doing it again for Shae’s birthday next month. :/

Why does Ray ever touch Qua’s hair? OHMYGAWD…he did it the other day, and decided he would use spritz in her hair. Did you hear me……spritz! He said he needed something to smooth the ponytail. *smh* And this was some professional spritz that I got from my aunt (the cosmetologist). The kind you use for french rolls or those long lasting ponytails! lol. When I use it, I spray a few light mists in the air and step into it. He told me he went to town on the pump. Using it like it was a water bottle. So I go to do her hair, and it won’t move…I mean it won’t budgggeeee! It’s all matted together, looking like a dang bird’s nest. I could not get a comb through it. He goes, “just wash it.” Water would not even penetrate this helmet. When the spritz finally started coming out, it was thick and white like glue. It took days of washing…yes, days…….So um…he’s not allowed to do hair anymore. Last time he did it he thought a jar of Queen Helene Conditioner was grease. So sad. :/

Now it’s time for my late night snack. 😉

Pregnancy Note:By today, the surface of the baby’s skin is smoother and whiter as body fat accumulates under its surface.
